Centro Latinx is an affinity space managed by the Office for Racial and Cultural Engagement and it is dedicated to Emory’s Latinx/Hispanic community.  Centro Latinx fosters a community of united, critical thinking, and socially conscious Latinx leaders at Emory University. The diverse cultural heritage, history, and traditions of Latinx/Hispanic peoples will be celebrated, explored, and affirmed by the entire Emory community in this welcoming space. In partnership with individuals and organizations, Centro Latinx will provide inclusion for the Emory community and support the intellectual, personal, leadership and social development of the Latinx community at Emory.

The Centro Latinx Advisory Board (CLAB) meets monthly to consult on the use of the space and programming of Centro Latinx as well as discuss issues of interest to Emory’s Latinx community.  CLAB is a 12-member board consisting of two each of the following: undergraduate and graduate members, alumni, faculty, and staff members, as well as an undergraduate and graduate Co-Chair.  CLAB is advised by Victoria Alarcon in the Office for RACE.

Submit Space Reservation Request

 

Centro Latinx is located on the 1st floor of the Alumni Memorial Center (AMUC) and may be reserved any day, 7:30am -10:00pm.

Reservations must meet the following guidelines and be aligned with the mission of Centro Latinx. 

Events held in Centro Latinx must: 

  1. Incorporate the Latinx/Hispanic community 
  2. Align with the mission of the cultural space 
  3. Promote at least one of the following: 
    • Education (e.g., workshops, seminars, lectures, talks, etc.) 
    • Community Building (e.g., networking, mixers, community outreach, recruitment for identity-based Latinx groups on and off campus, etc.)  
    • Awareness (e.g., film screenings, documentaries, lectures, talks, discussion groups, etc.)

Reservation requests must be submitted at least one week prior to the event. Please allow up to 3 business days for approvals, denials, or requests for more information. 

Please Note: We reserve the right to alter, amend, and/or cancel reservations at any time based on the nature of events and/or needs of the space. Organizations approved for reservations are responsible for ensuring the space is maintained and respected during their event. This means all surfaces must be cleaned/cleared and all trash and recycling placed in appropriate receptacles.  Failure to do so may result in the denial of future requests.  

Centro Latinx Interns

The Centro Latinx Interns make Centro not just a space, but a campus-wide community.  They are liaisons to new visitors to Centro, they host weekly programming like La Sala in Centro, and they connect Emory’s Latinx student orgs to Centro.
